Personal Auto Premium Relief Update April 18,2020

And, our insurance companies are making it easy! You do not need to take any action – refunds will occur automatically. This week, the California Insurance Commissioner provided direction for insurance companies  to begin implementation of their relief plans.

State Fund Announces Two Separate Funds to Assist California Workers and Businesses

The California State Compensation Fund announced two separate funds to assist California workers and businesses during the COVID-19 crisis.  The Essential Business Support Fund and the Essential Worker Support Fund are funds available through State Fund to help California businesses and workers.

The State Fund Essential Business Support Fund, a $25-million fund designed to assist our policyholders who are operating as essential businesses during this unprecedented time.

The fund provides grants to qualified policyholders to help defray the cost of safety-related expenses, planned or already incurred, related to protecting their employees from COVID-19.

State Fund policyholders who are operating an essential business may be eligible to apply for this grant. The full list of qualifications, rules and requirements is available here.

Policyholders can apply by completing this application and returning it to [email protected] as soon as possible.

 

Insurance Commissioner Lara Orders Insurance Companies to Refund Premiums to Drivers and Businesses Affected by the COVID-19

Due to ongoing “shelter in place” restrictions, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara ordered further action by the insurance industry to reduce premiums due to lack of “exposure” for businesses also. This newest release puts in motion the massive personal auto rate relief efforts that have been announced by most major insurance carriers since Department of Insurance approval is not required to begin refunds.

As of right now, at least 8 personal auto insurance carriers have announced their intention to provide premium relief to their loyal customers in these difficult times. The reason insurance companies can do this is people are simply not driving their cars as much, therefore less miles are being driven and there are fewer claims. Many leading companies have decided to provide their customers the benefit of there being fewer claims.

It’s really important for all to understand that every company has created their own unique program of delivering relief funds. As of now, every company has advised that all relief fund deliveries are “subject to state or regulatory or Department of Insurance” approval.
