Off Road Vehicle Safety Tips

Off road vehicles yield plenty of fun and an array of dangers at the same time. Off road vehicles allow you to enjoy areas that are inaccessible by car. However, if you will be enjoying the many benefits of off road vehicles, you must be prepared to follow the basic safety precautions. Compiled is a list of off road vehicle safety tips for you to remain safe during your travels:

  • If you will be taking on a local trail in your off road vehicle, it is important that you begin by researching the local laws and regulations. You will want to make an effort to preserve the local area by following all rules and suggestions.
  • Whether you are taking a short stroll around the neighborhood or embarking on a 23-mile trail, you must always be equipped with DOT-approved motorcycle gear. This includes a helmet, eye protection, leathers, over-the-ankle boots, and gloves. Without the right gear, you leave your most important asset vulnerable to harm.
  • No matter how many times we hear it, we somehow seem to always forget – Practice makes perfect. You should find a safe place to practice your braking and turning skills. The more you practice, the safer you will be during your 23-mile journey through the trails.
  • You may want to take a defensive driving course for the extra knowledge and to perhaps land an insurance discount.
  • As tempting as it may be, refrain from driving on paved roads. Your off road vehicle was not built for the paved roads and can prove to be a dangerous combination.
  • Most importantly, always be aware of your surroundings while on the roads or trails!

Auto Insurance Discounts for Teen Drivers

It is no surprise that insuring teen drivers can be costly. Teen drivers are viewed as inexperienced drivers and are more likely to be involved in auto accidents and receive traffic tickets. While elevated rates are inevitable when it comes to insuring your teen driver, there are still ways for you to lower your auto insurance premium, including:

  • How many times have you threatened taking away privileges if your child does not maintain a strong grade point average? Now, they actually have incentive! Students that maintain a B average, or 3.0 GPA, will receive a substantial discount for being a good student. The good student discount can be your ticket to encouraging your child to receive good grades.
  • Many insurance companies will reward inexperienced drivers who take defensive driving courses with an insurance discount. Whether you have already taken Driver’s Ed to receive your license or not, the refresher on basic driving rules proves that you want to be a safer driver.
  • While your new teen driver may be begging for that new red sports car, it is smarter if you go for an older and more practical vehicle. Sensible vehicles are less expensive to insure, especially when there is a teen driver behind the wheel of it.
  • If you are looking for a big way to save, you may want to consider increasing your deductible. This will provide you with a smaller premium amount, however, you must be ready to pay the elevated deductible if you are involved in an accident. It is important that you do not make this change without considering actually having to pay the deductible.

Contact Stromsoe Insurance Agency in Murrieta for all of your California auto insurance needs. Insuring your teen driver does not have to break the bank with a comprehensive auto insurance policy from Stromsoe Insurance Agency! Allow us to safeguard your most prized asset at an affordable rate.

Safely Sharing the Road with Bicyclists

Schools are starting to fill with children while the roads are filling with motorists and bicyclists going to and from their destinations. With more children riding to and from school on their bicycles, we must think about what we can do to make the roads a safer place.

As a state-wide effort to reduce the number of biking fatalities on the California roads, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) have put forth a new law. Starting on September 16th, all motorists must yield three feet of distance between bicyclists at all times. This rule applies to motorists trying to pass or overtake a bicyclist. If you are unable to yield three feet distance, you must slow down until you are able to do so without presenting any danger.

Safety on the road however is not a one way street. While more distance between vehicles and bicycles will surely make a difference, both motorists and bicyclists must practice safe driving habits. Gathered are some helpful safe driving tips for both bicyclists and motorists:

  • Whether you are cycling to and from school, or simply around the corner to visit a friend, it is important that you are always equipped with a helmet.
  • If your child will be riding their bicycle to school, explain to them that they are safest while riding with traffic as opposed to against it.
  • As a bicyclist on the road, it is important that you maintain eye contact with drivers in their cars, tell your children riding their bicycles this vital tip as well. Eye contact can let you know the difference between an aware driver and a distracted driver.
  • Most importantly, always be aware of your surroundings.

It is important that you not only abide by the rules of the new law, but you must also practice safe driving habits no matter how busy or in a rush you may be. Contact Stromsoe Insurance Agency in Murrieta for all of your California auto insurance needs.

Insuring Your Intangible Assets

Our heavy technological dependence has created an increased need for protecting our business’ intangible assets in a unique way. Recent mass data breaches have proven the importance of purchasing a cyber-liability insurance policy. With nearly all of our client and company data saved online, we must find a way to protect our most valuable information adequately.

Advancements in technology mean that most US businesses will be able to host their company data on third-party sources in order to receive full protection. As many companies currently share servers, problems are arising where multiple companies and clients can suffer in the event of one data breach.

When choosing the right type of insurance to adequately protect your business, it is important that you read through the various coverage options to ensure that your intangible assets are protected. Many insurance providers will strictly prohibit coverage from third-party networks or cloud computing. Instead, you should only purchase policies that clearly define their limits and coverage options so that you do not wind up with any unpleasant surprises.

As a relatively new form of insurance, cyber liability insurance is constantly evolving. Insurance providers are still determining how to provide coverage for these new risks. While you may be thinking of hosting your data in the cloud to reduce your risk factors and decrease the cost of housing data, you may find yourself vulnerable to cyber-attack. Before making any final decisions, speak with your insurance provider to ensure that your biggest investment is adequately protected.

How Traffic Violations Affect Your Insurance Premium

While many drivers are well aware that getting a speeding ticket affects both their bank accounts and insurance premium, many are unaware of how other moving violations impact those numbers. Research shows that one moving violation can increase your insurance premium up to 93%. That means the rate you have been working so hard to earn with multiple discounts is gone, and you are now forced to pay nearly double. Compiled is a list of the top 7 most expensive moving violations that affect your insurance premium:

Top 7 Most Expensive Violations Include:

  1. DUI – 93% Increase in Insurance Premium
  2. Reckless Driving – 82% Increase in Insurance Premium
  3. Speeding – 30% Increase in Insurance Premium
  4. Careless Driving – 27% Increase in Insurance Premium
  5. Failure to Stop – 19% Increase in Insurance Premium
  6. Failure to Yield to Pedestrians – 19% Increase in Insurance Premium
  7. Driving in a Carpool Lane – 18% Increase in Insurance Premium

Like most things, each state varies on premium increases following a moving violation. California tends to take the spot for the most expensive premium increases. The numbers compiled above represent a nationwide average. Likewise, the amount your insurance premium increases also depends on your insurance provider. Some insurance providers forgive your first moving violation but penalize you more for your second violation. There was an obvious forgiving trend in those who have all of their insurance policies bundled with one insurance carrier.

Insuring Your Home-Based Business

As the commonality of home-based business continue to rise, it is becoming increasingly more important to make sure that your business is adequately protected. Many business professionals that run their business from their home are misinformed and assume their assets will be covered under their existing homeowners’ insurance policy or business insurance policy that applies in the office. However, depending on your line of work, you may need additional coverage in order to receive full protection.

If you answer yes to any of the following questions, you may need to purchase additional coverage:

  • Does your standard homeowners’ insurance policy have a limit in coverage of business equipment?
  • Do you work from home on a regularly basis as opposed to your office at work?
  • Do you ever conduct business in contacts’ homes or allow contacts or employees to visit your home?
  • Is any of your business data stored at home?

Typical Home-Based Business Insurance Policies Include:

  • Rider to a Homeowners/Renters Insurance Policy – This is the least expensive option because it only provides limited additional coverage. If your business is run by a one-man operation system with limited liability exposure, this may be the perfect choice for you.
  • In-Home Business Policy – This will offer you coverage for business liability protection, and replacement of lost income from fire, theft, or any other disaster. This will act as a single policy, eliminating any gaps or duplications in coverage.
  • Business Owner’s Policy (BOP) – This will over you the most comprehensive coverage, protecting you from unexpected business interruption, damage to data or business equipment, and protection from malpractice or professional liability claims.

Operation School Bell

Established in 1989, Operation School Bell has been able to provide clothes for over 25,000 children in need. This philanthropic program strives to enhance self-esteem, promote learning, and encourage regular school attendance.

The Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Menifee, and Temecula School Districts have joined forces to give children in need the attention they deserve. We accept referrals by district health clerks as well, providing any child with the clothing they need.

Teaming up with Kohl’s stores in Temecula, Murrieta, and Menifee, and the Target in Lake Elsinore, we have come up with a program that helps children get clothing for the school year. This “shopping event” allows children to attend their appointment time with their parents and spend $125 for necessary school appropriate items. The only thing we expect in return is a smile on each child’s face. One of the most disheartening things is to hear a child say they have never owned clothing they can call their own.

Our Save Our Schools (SOS) program has helped multiple preschool students from Head Start, State Preschool, and Special Education Preschool in the Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, and Lake Elsinore School Districts. Any child in need receives a duffle bag filled with hygienic items and a change of clothing.

Operation School Bell strives to provide children with the attention they deserve and clothing on their backs. As long as children leave happy with big smiles on their faces, we can sleep at night knowing we have done a good thing.

5 Ways to Prevent Burglary While on Vacation

As you plan for your vacation there are a variety of measures that must be taken before your big journey. Packing the perfect outfits, planning how you will get to you destination, and where you will sightsee are likely top on your list of priorities. However, have you begun planning how you will protect your home while you are away? Criminal activity skyrockets during the summer months because criminals have become experts at determining which homes have been left vulnerable. Burglary prevention is simple when you plan properly. Consider these 5 helpful tips to ensure that you do not return from your vacation with unpleasant surprises:

  1. Arrange for a close friend or neighbor to check on your house periodically. You will want this trusted person to check your mail, pick up your daily newspaper, and change the position of your car every few days. Piling up mail and newspapers screams empty home.
  2. If you will be going on a long vacation, you may want to notify the local police station so that they can parole the area periodically.
  3. As tempting as it may be, refrain from posting any vacation plans on social media. Those who post their departure and return dates on Facebook or Twitter often return to unpleasant surprises. Criminals know how tempting it is to inform your friends of your 2 week trip to the Bahamas so they look for those signs.
  4. Set timers on your lights and television so that it appears that someone is home.
  5. As simple as this may be, make sure all windows and side doors are locked. Criminals prefer houses that are easy to burglarize and require little effort.

Stromsoe Insurance Agency understands the importance of protecting your most valuable investment – your home. Contact us today for all of your California homeowners’ insurance needs. Allow us to provide you with the peace of mind knowing your home is adequately protected.

Barbecuing may be one of your hobbies, but it is still a good idea to update yourself on the safety precautions that should be taken in order to keep your family fun memorable for the right reasons. • Having a fire extinguisher and knowing how to use it is one of the most important parts of grilling. You should also know how to cut fuel supplies in case of an accident.

  • When lighting the charcoal on the barbecue, be sure to follow the instructions manual as to avoid a fire.
